Today Moo asked if she could use my sewing machine. She hasn't really asked before because I had put the fear of god in her about touching my machine. But she asked today, and even though I really wanted to do my own stuff, I thought it was time. I drew some lines on some fabric, so she could practice sewing a straight line and get a feel for the machine. Before I knew it, she was having a grand time experimenting with decoratives stitches.
While I was cooking dinner, she rustled up a few more scraps (from the dress she is wearing which I will blog about soon). She made a bag. Then found a strip of fabric and came to ask me how to attach it to the bag. She went off and did that herself. When she was done she came to show me her work and told me it was a bag to hold money. I suggested that perhaps it wasn't the best for money. At that moment she said, "how about a recorder?"
At dinner I said to her that the bag could have been constructed so that you can't see the bits of fabric on the outside. She then said, "oh yes, I'd sew it inside out." She has also said that she wants a sewing machine. So listen up Grandma, I know you read this blog, so start saving. Your granddaughter wants a sewing machine. I don't think the youngest princess will settle for anything less than a Bernina.

My daughter is 7 and she's been sewing on my machines for almost a year. She takes felt bits and makes them into pictures by sewing them to a bigger piece of felt. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2417/4509400711_a819e906de_b.jpg
We call them 'art quilts' and she likes to give them away as gifts.
Sometimes she will use random scraps that she finds on my sewing table!
Sara, that felt picture is totally adorable. I am pretty sure Moo would love to make something like that. I will keep it in mind for when she is looking for her next project. This morning she was asking to use my machine this afternoon to make another bag.
How gorgeous Sara, you will have to be careful or you'll be fighting her for your machine soon. Do you think if I asked nicely Grandma would start saving for a Bernina for me too. :D :D

Charlotte is exactly the same and she makes her bags the wrong way too. I'm trying to find time to sit down and show her how you do it so the seams don't show. I'm off to check that felt art out I bet she would love that

I just order a small simple machine (19.99$) for my girl because she really wants to learn how to sew, and I do not want it to be on my machine... at least not yet :-)
Can't wat for it to arrive... Hope it's woeth something...
That's the best looking recorder cover!! and personally I rather like the exposed seams look. She's a very clever girl to do that all in one day! :)

It had to happen, you can't expect to sew her all those gorgeous clothes without her wanting to have a go herself! My guess is she will get the machine whether Grandma buys it or not! :D
